Trinkets are boss-earned items that can change what a Dude Type does during a How Many Dudes? run. The official Store says Act Bosses award Trinkets, and the Dudex states that each roster Dude Type can have one Trinket bound during a run. The important choice is therefore not which item has the largest number; it is which Type can activate, survive, and multiply the effect.
The current official Trinkets index is the source for exact percentages, durations and cooldowns. Values cited here reflect the page checked on 2026-08-01 and should be reread after a balance update.
Begin with the Wielder, not the item name
Trinket definitions call the assigned Type the Wielder. Write the Wielder’s baseline Ability, reliable events, desired Stats, and current weakness before comparing items. An effect that fires on Direct Damage belongs on a Type that produces that event often; a movement payoff needs a Type that travels enough to convert it.
Because binding applies to a Dude Type, duplicate members of that Type can change the value of wording that refers to each Wielder. Do not assume an effect is once per roster or once per individual without reading its current text and any shared cooldown.
Then ask what job the item replaces or adds. Medical License can turn damage dealt into healing. Taser converts distance traveled into shocks. Face Tattoo redirects Deflected Damage toward its Wielder. Each can bend a Type into a new role, but only if the rest of the roster supports the added responsibility.
Classify Trinkets by conversion
Some Trinkets convert an event into damage. Baseball Bat strikes nearby enemies on a timer and always Crits under the current entry. Folding Chair can add a Max-HP-based strike after Attack Damage. Shiv uses the target’s missing-HP percentage as its chance for an additional hit.
Others add survival or recovery. Ear Gauges responds to Fatal Damage once per battle in its current wording. Friendship Bracelet survives Fatal Damage by equalizing HP with the healthiest Dude, subject to its cooldown. Neckbrace adds Max HP and a Temporary Health response when the Wielder drops low.
A third group changes movement, control, or team shape. ADHD raises Run Speed and periodically Dashes to the farthest enemy. Laser Pointer can teleport a Type below the Wielder’s roster position. Rizz rewards adjacency around its Wielder. Read the target and position clauses before assigning these effects to an otherwise good candidate.
Match risk to defensive margin
Some items carry an explicit tradeoff. Glass Cannon currently adds stacking Attack Power on Critical Hits while also adding Vulnerability. Weighted Vest grants Toughness and Attack Power but reduces Run Speed. A large upside can fail if its cost attacks the Type’s existing weakness.
Evaluate the worst boss event, not an average early round. A slow Wielder with Weighted Vest may lose so much target access that the Attack Power never converts. A fragile Crit engine with Glass Cannon may accumulate Vulnerability faster than the roster can protect it.
Pair risk with a named defense: Max HP, Toughness, Temporary Health, Deflection, a protector, or a cheat-death layer whose trigger is independent enough to catch the failure. If the protection depends on the same fragile event chain, the build may collapse all at once.
Use Trinkets to bridge two Dudes
The release announcement presents Trinkets as a way to create new synergies, giving examples such as a Wizard with Medical License or a General with Therapy. The point is role conversion: an item can let one Type supply an event another part of the roster needs.
Build the bridge in both directions. If Medical License makes a damage Type heal, identify which Stats increase the damage events and which teammate benefits from the new recovery. If Taser rewards travel, provide Dashes, teleports, or Run Speed rather than expecting ordinary movement to carry the entire effect.
Avoid adding a secondary role that disrupts the primary one. A tank assigned an aggressive movement Trinket may abandon protected allies. A healer assigned a damage tradeoff may lose the uptime that justified the Type. The bridge is successful when the new job reinforces the original team plan.
Respect one binding slot per Type
With one bound Trinket per roster Type, choosing an item closes other possibilities for that Type during the run. Compare candidates by marginal value: what does this assignment add that the Ability, dedicated Relics, and teammates do not already provide?
Duplicate Types make the slot particularly important. Team Jersey currently rewards nearby Dudes of the same Type, while Fedora compares prevalence counts and its Wielder’s Type. These effects should be evaluated from the exact roster count and battlefield behavior, not simply labeled “duplicate build” items.
When two Types can use the same concept, assign it to the one with more reliable activation and give the other a complementary job. This reduces competition for the same Stat and creates a team with separate failure protections.
Plan around boss acquisition
The Store and release announcement say Act Bosses reward Trinkets. The public sources used here do not provide a fixed current drop order for every run, so do not construct an evergreen route around an unverified exact boss table.
Before the reward appears, identify two or three acceptable conversion categories rather than one named item. For example, the roster may accept any dependable cheat-death layer, any movement-to-damage conversion, or any Type-wide defensive effect. This keeps the build adaptable.
After choosing, reopen the Wielder’s Ability and dedicated Relics. The Trinket can change which Stat, trigger, or partner is now best. Treat it as a build pivot rather than a passive trophy.
Audit a Trinket after the battle
Observe whether its trigger occurred, who received the result, how often it mattered, and whether the Wielder stayed alive and in position. A counter or tooltip in the live UI is stronger evidence than the item looking active on the roster screen.
If it underperformed, distinguish low trigger frequency from weak payoff. Increase the relevant event or movement only for the first case. Improve scaling or give the item to another Type for the second. If the effect solved a problem the team did not have, change the selection criterion rather than the build.
Record the current wording or date when sharing a build. The official index contains balance-sensitive percentages and cooldowns that can change, while the role-matching method remains useful across versions.
